This is the A2-sized print version of an artist book I created in 2025 in response to my visit to Kata Tjuta. The original No Photographs Allowed is a hand-constructed pop-up book. The work explores what it means to step off the grid—beyond what can be recorded, archived, or accurately reproduced. While walking through the Valley of the Winds, photography of the rock formations was prohibited. Rather than feeling restrictive, the rule sharpened my attention. Without the option to document, I became much more aware of my body in space: the heat, the wind, the shifting light, the weight of the forms around me. Memory became my only map.
So I recreated the interior of The Olgas from fragments of my memory, by piecing together gel prints of the surroundings and adding hand-painted native flowers, which were blooming everywhere at the time I was walking through. Read more details about this work in the gallery.
